Senior School

In the Senior School, every lesson is now specialist taught: an innovation which encourages girls to become more independent and to focus on their final goal: transferring to their chosen school at 11+.  Key to this, is a balanced curriculum which equips girls with the skills they need to achieve short- and long-term goals.

At this stage, Maths and English are the cornerstones, while Art, Science, Languages, Life Skills and Games are the building blocks fundamental to sound overall structure.

At each stage of their schooling, girls study in small classes, with individual attention.  They benefit from the resources necessary to support every stage and have access to Learning Support, if needed.  We aim to develop the girls’ initiative and encourage interest in a wide range of subjects.  We want girls to enjoy their time here so much that they never want it to end.

Every term we study a composer and visit galleries, museums and theatres.  Everyone takes part in Music and Drama sessions; in Form V, we introduce Latin and pupils go on a week’s residential field trip.  In Form VI, girls travel to France to study French life and practise their language skills.

At PNEU, we understand the importance of games and exercise, including some physical activity every day.  PNEU regularly plays netball and rounders matches and enters swimming galas and tennis tournaments.  Our innovative Life Skills programme includes current affairs, debates, nature observation, cookery, needlework, first aid and cycling proficiency.

PNEU girls do exceptionally well when transferring to secondary schools and are regularly awarded places at Abbot's Hill, Berkhamsted Collegiate, Dr Challoner’s High School, Haberdashers’ Aske’s, North London Collegiate, Northwood College, The Royal Masonic, St. Clement Danes, St Helen’s, Watford Grammar School for Girls and Wycombe Abbey.  We have a good record for Scholarship awards. Whilst PNEU does not select on academic ability, pupils achieve results in KS2 SATS “far above the national average” according to the latest ISI School Inspection Report.

Our Senior School staff prepare girls for their secondary education and for life itself.  We pride ourselves on a broadly-based curriculum and facilities which extend and enrich their whole educational experience.  We delight in seeing girls develop a thirst for knowledge, a love of life, a sense of responsibility, confidence and maturity as they move on to the wider world.
